Campaign ID: TC-HX11-26-012
Vehicle: smart #1
Model series: HX11
Model years: 2022–
Powertrain: Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)
Campaign type: Technical Service Campaign
Severity: Blue – Low
Status: Active
Estimated repair time: 0.2–0.4 hours
Campaign Overview
A technical campaign has been introduced for selected smart #1 vehicles to inspect the sealing element around the vehicle's charging port.
On certain vehicles, the charging-port seal may not be positioned optimally. Under unfavorable weather conditions or after washing the vehicle, small amounts of moisture may collect around the outer area of the charging-port housing.
The high-voltage charging components themselves are protected against moisture. The condition described by this campaign does not affect the safe operation of the vehicle or the high-voltage battery.
The charging-port seal will be inspected during the vehicle's next regular workshop visit and repositioned or replaced if necessary.
Customer Complaint / Possible Symptoms
In most cases, customers will not notice any symptoms.
Possible indications may include:
- Small amounts of moisture around the charging-port housing
- Water droplets visible after washing the vehicle
- Moisture around the outer edge of the charging flap
- Charging-port flap may occasionally feel slightly more difficult to close
- No customer complaint; condition identified during a regular inspection
Normal charging functionality is generally not affected.
Vehicles Affected
This campaign applies to selected:
smart #1
Depending on market and production configuration, affected vehicles may include different smart #1 equipment variants.
Production period: from 2022
Campaign applicability must always be confirmed using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
Not every smart #1 is affected.
Cause
Due to manufacturing tolerances, the sealing element surrounding the charging-port housing may not be positioned with the intended uniform contact pressure.
Under certain environmental conditions, this can allow small amounts of moisture to collect in the outer area of the charging-port housing.
The electrical charging connections and high-voltage components remain protected by their dedicated sealing systems.
Customer Action
No additional workshop visit is required.
The customer may continue to drive and charge the vehicle as normal.
The technical campaign will be carried out during the next regular workshop visit, provided the campaign remains open for the vehicle's VIN.
If the customer experiences a charging malfunction, receives a charging-related warning message, or notices damage to the charging connector, they should contact an authorized service partner independently of this campaign.
Workshop Procedure
1. Verify Vehicle Eligibility
Check the VIN in the campaign or warranty system.
Proceed only if campaign TC-HX11-26-012 is shown as open for the vehicle.
2. Inspect Charging-Port Area
Open the charging flap and visually inspect the charging-port housing and surrounding sealing element.
Check:
- Correct positioning of the seal
- Uniform contact of the sealing element
- Deformation
- Cracks or other visible damage
- Evidence of moisture accumulation
- Condition of the charging-port housing
- Correct operation of the charging flap
3. Evaluate the Condition
Seal correctly positioned and undamaged
If no abnormalities are identified:
- Verify correct positioning of the seal.
- Clean the surrounding area if required.
- Verify correct operation of the charging flap.
- Document the technical campaign as completed.
Seal incorrectly positioned
If the seal is undamaged but incorrectly positioned:
- Carefully release the affected section of the seal.
- Clean the contact surface.
- Reposition the seal according to the repair instructions.
- Verify uniform fitment.
- Inspect the area for correct sealing.
Seal damaged or permanently deformed
If the seal shows cracks, permanent deformation, or other damage:
- Remove the affected sealing element.
- Install the revised sealing element.
- Verify correct positioning.
- Inspect the charging-port area.
- Verify correct operation of the charging flap.
Charging Function Check
After completing the campaign:
- Check the charging port for visible contamination or moisture.
- Verify that the charging connector can be inserted correctly.
- Connect approved charging equipment.
- Confirm that the vehicle initiates the charging process normally.
- Check the vehicle display for charging-related warning messages.
- Disconnect the charging equipment according to the normal procedure.
- Verify correct operation of the charging flap.
No work on the high-voltage battery is required as part of this campaign.
